CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer was edged, 1-0, by the visiting Tulsa Hurricane on Saturday night at Gettler Stadium.

The Bearcats nearly pushed the match to overtime in the final 10 seconds of regulation when Mason Volker (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) played the ball forward to Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) who, in a 1v1 situation against the Hurricane goalkeeper, had his shot deflected back over the net to close the match.

With the loss, UC dropped to 3-9-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the American Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, Tulsa moved to 4-7-2 on the season and 1-3-0 in the league. The loss also snapped a three-match home unbeaten streak for the Bearcats.

On a cool night in the Queen City, the two teams played a competitive first half with each recording multiple shots on goal. The visitors almost got on the scoreboard first on a header attempt that was saved in the final seconds of the first half by Bearcats goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md./Sacred Heart).

Searching for the first score of the night in the second half, UC pushed ahead but was unable to cash in a goal. The Hurricane, however, was able to break through with a score during the 75th minute. Playing from behind, the Bearcats were on the hunt for the equalizer late in the period. They had opportunities during the 87th minute, capped by a Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) header attempt that went wide of the net. With a last-ditch effort by Commissiong in the final seconds of regulation, the Red & Black came up just short, 1-0.

Six Bearcats registered a shot on the night with Epps leading the way with three, including one on goal. Cameron Panley (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) and Ryan Melink (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) also had tries on target.
