A day after being named an American Athletic Conference preseason first-team selection, University of Cincinnati junior guard Jarron Cumberland was selected Tuesday to the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year preseason watch list by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Named after 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determine the watch list of 20 candidates.

Cumberland started all 36 games, averaging 11.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists last season as the Bearcats matched the school record for victories while posting a 31-5 overall mark and claiming the AAC regular-season and tournament championships. He scored in double figures in 22 games and tied former teammate Jacob Evans III for team-high honors in three-pointers with 60.

Cumberland ranked second on the squad, averaging 14.0 points during five postseason games a year ago, including his first collegiate double-double, scoring a career-high 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting with four three-pointers and a career-high 11 rebounds against Georgia State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2019 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.  The winner of the 2019 Jerry West Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 12, 2019, along with the other four members of the Naismith Starting 5. Additional awards being presented and sponsored by Eaton Ephesus Lighting include the Bob Cousy Point Guard Award, the Julius Erving Small Forward Award, the Karl Malone Power Forward Award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center Award.

// MINI PLANS ON SALE NOW
Mini plans for the 2018-19 University of Cincinnati men's basketball season at newly renovated Fifth Third Arena are on sale now.

However, purchasing season tickets remains the only way to secure your seats for contests against in-state rival Ohio State (Wednesday, Nov. 7) and city-foe Xavier (Saturday, Dec. 8).

Starting as low as $200, the five-game mini plan offers Bearcats fans the option to pick three from contests against UCLA (Wednesday, Dec. 19), UConn (Saturday, Jan. 12), SMU (Saturday, Feb. 2), Wichita State (Sunday, Feb. 17) or Memphis (Saturday, March 2) and two other games from the collection of games against Tusculum (exhibition on Thursday, Nov. 1), North Carolina Central (Tuesday, Nov. 13), Milwaukee (Friday, Nov. 16), Western Michigan (Monday, Nov. 19), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Tuesday, Nov. 27), NKU (Tuesday, Dec. 4), South Carolina State (Saturday, Dec. 22), Tulane (Wednesday, Jan. 2), USF (Tuesday, Jan. 15), Tulsa (Thursday, Jan. 24), UCF (Thursday, Feb. 21) and Houston (Sunday, March 10).
