FORT WAYNE, Ind. – University of Cincinnati men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday night at Hefner Soccer Complex.

With the loss, the Bearcats fell to 3-10-1 on the season, while the Mastodons improved to 8-6-1 overall.

In its final road nonconference game of the season, UC, with a new-look starting lineup, was aggressive in the opening half with a shot on target by Marcello Jones (Cornwall, England/Truro College) in the 20th minute. The home team answered minutes later with a goal during the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Searching for the equalizer, the Bearcats had an attempt on goal by Moritz Schaller (Austria/Vienna University) in the 38th minute that was saved. The Red & Black kept PFW off the scoreboard for the duration of the first half and faced a 1-0 deficit at halftime.

Fighting to even the match in the second half, UC was energized on the offensive end with numerous shot attempts. Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) created a couple opportunities midway through the second period including a shot on goal in the 68th minute. During the 74th minute, Mohamed Elmardi (Khartoum, Sudan/Lakota East) had a header attempt that went wide left of the net. Peyton Mowery (Troy, Ohio/Troy) followed with try on target in the 80th minute that was turned away. Over the final 10 minutes of regulation, the home team was able to keep possession which stymied the Red & Black offensive attack. Despite outshooting the Mastodons 11-5 on the night, including 4-2 on goal, the Bearcats came up short, 1-0.

Eight different UC players recorded a shot during the match, led by two each by Epps, Elmardi, and Jones. The Red & Black attempted two corner kicks on the night, compared to eight for PFW. Goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md./Sacred Heart) saved one shot in the match.
