CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati volleyball moved to 8-0 in conference play with a 3-0 sweep against USF at St. Ursula Academy Friday night.
 
UC is now posed to face UCF on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a battle between the American Athletic Conference's two remaining undefeated teams. The Knights swept ECU on the road Friday night to set up Sunday's pivotal matchup.
 
// NOTES
• It was a strong offensive nights as the Bearcats hit .473 in the match
• Jordan Thompson led with 12 kills on a .524 attack percentage and Carly Nolan was just as good with 11 kills on a .450 attack percentage
• Nolan also had 11 digs to complete the double-double
• Dasha Cabarkapa had a nice night, finishing with nine kills and four blocks
• Jade Tingelhoff led with 30 assists

"Our goal is to get better every match we walk in to. I believe we got better tonight. We tried some things offensively and we looked good. Our middles did an awesome job scoring points for us offensively and defensively with their block. I am so proud of the fight in this team."
 
// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC, 25-23

Nolan started the match with a kill and UC gradually gained momentum as the night went on. Jasmine Jones earned a kill to tie the match four and the Bearcats scored the next three points on a Thompson kill, Armania Heckenmueller ace and a block by Jones and Erica Kostelac. The Bulls were able to pull within one, 10-9, on a block, but back-to-back kills by Cabarkapa kept the lead with UC. USF did pull close again later on as the match became tied at 19. However, Tingelhoff had two kills, Nolan and one and Maria Mallon had one to give the Bearcats a three-point advantage. Thompson ended the set on a kill.
Set 2: UC, 25-17
USF kept it close at the onset, but UC started pulling ahead and did not look back. With the set tied 9-9, a few errors by the Bulls gave the Bearcats an advantage. Once Nolan made it a 13-10 set, USF called a timeout. Out of the break, UC went on a 3-0 run to up its lead to six points. Nolan added two more kills and Cabarkapa one to force another USF timeout as UC was ahead 20-13. Thompson scored three of the final four UC points via kills to end the set.
Set 3: UC 25-12
For the first time on the night the Bulls were able to get the opening point of the set, but it didn't take long for the Bearcats to take control. Thompson answered quickly with back-to-back kills then added another and a block with Jones later on. Mallon got in on the action with two kills and Nolan added one more to her total to make it a 9-4 game. The Bearcats put together two 3-0 and one 4-0 runs during the middle of the set to remain ahead. Two kills by Cabarkapa brought the event to match point and a block by Cabarkapa and Tingelhoff made it a UC victory.

The conference's two 8-0 teams face off at St. Ursula Academy on Sunday at 1 p.m. when UC hosts UCF.
