University of Cincinnati sophomore Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian HS) qualified for the 2019 USGA Four Ball Championship earlier this week at a sectional qualifying event at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio.

Osterburg teamed with University of Indianapolis freshman Oliver Mast to card an event-best 7-under par 65 Monday, Oct. 22, finishing ahead of 39 other competing groups. The duo of Brandon Berry and Matt Epperson from Lexington, Ky., also qualified, placing second with a 6-under 66.

The 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship takes place May 25-29 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.

According the USGA's Rules of Golf, four-ball stroke play is "a competition in which two competitors play as partners, each playing his own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. If one partner fails to complete the play of the hole, there is no penalty."

Osterburg finished UC's fall season by tying for fourth place at 5-under 139 in the rain-shortened Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech on Oct. 16. It marked the best tournament finish of his young collegiate career. His 73.27 stroke average during the fall ranked fourth-best on the team.

The Bearcats begin their spring season at Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate on Feb. 23-24, 2019.
