CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati tennis team concluded the fall season at home with the UC Tennis Pam Whitehead Invitational. After strong weekend performance in singles, Antonella Bramato took home top honors as she was named the singles event winner.
// SINGLES RECAP
The Bearcats posted many strong performances in singles action, with Antonella Bramato taking top honors for the event. Bramato posted a 3-0 record on the weekend as she took down her first two opponents quickly before facing a three-set battle with Ahmeir Kyle of Xavier. Maria Santilli also posted a 3-0 record for the weekend, but due to the event scoring system she finished just outside the top 3 performers. Caroline Morton and Ioana Guna posted 2-1 records and Anna Philp finished the weekend with a 1-1 record. It was a tough weekend for Alexia Coutino as she battled but was unable to find victory in her three matches.
// DOUBLES RECAP
The Bearcats mixed some groups up, but one group that did play together for all three matches was the duo of Bramato and Coutino. Unfortunately, the pair was only able to find victory in one match, taking down the duo of Edwards and Zaporozhets from Chattanooga. Amanda Huser and Caroline Morton also played all three matches together, but just like Bramato/Coutino were only able to find victory in one match. The other pairs that saw action together during the weekend were Ioana Guna/Maria Santilli, Guna/Anna Philp, Santilli/Maria Teixido Garcia and Teixido Garcia/Philp.
// COACH TOTH ON THE BEARCATS
"Like a lot of our Fall season has been, it was a very up and down weekend that ended very well with our singles play against Xavier. The competitiveness and execution we provided across the board is what Coach Adamovic and I have been looking for all Fall. If that group can consistently show up once we get going in January, an exciting regular season could be in store for us. Antonella Bramato was very impressive in her singles play both days and is a very deserving tournament MVP. The hard work continues and Coach Adamovic and I plan to keep pushing these girls hard over the next month. Everyone on this roster needs to keep improving their tennis and fitness if we are going to be the team we have the potential of being in 2019."
