VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and junior Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia) both shot first-round scores of 73 to lead the University of Cincinnati women's golf team on day one at the Old Dominion Princess Anne Invitational at Princess Anne Country Club. As a team, UC shot a 300 and are in 11th place.
Competing against a very competitive field, Hitt holed one birdie on the front nine holes of the 5,824-yard course and followed with two birdies on the back nine. Coupled with nine pars, the senior finished in a tie for 26th out of approximately 70 golfers with a three-over-par 73.
Murcia, too, had a solid showing with birdies on holes nine and 16 and bogeyed only five holes. With a strong finish, the junior moved into a tie for 26th as well.
Junior Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) and sophomore Amalia Shahzan (Kedah, Malaysia) each shot first-round scores of 77. Burritt saved par on 12 holes, while Shahzan parred 11 and birdied the sixth hole. Sophomore Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia) rounded out the scoring team with a 78 featuring 11 pars and a birdie.

// COACH CARL ON THE BEARCATS
"Today was a day of learning for the team. We had players who were not hitting the ball great who played well, and others who hit it decent but their short game was lacking. With that being said, we knew this was a strong field and we know we can go out and perform better tomorrow and put ourselves back in the middle of the field. This is the type of event we need to play so the players can learn that they belong there, too. Hats off to Anika and Daniela for low rounds today. We are one third of the way through this event and have a chance to improve."
