CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program opened its season with a sweep over visiting Indianapolis Friday night. The women won 245-55 while the men won 166.33-133.66.
 
// DIVING
Claire Schuermann, the reigning American Athletic Conference Women's Diver of the Year, started right where she left off, posting two NCAA Zone scores and winning both of her events
• Schuermann won the 1-meter with a 295.90 and the 3-meter with a 289.50
• Trisia Roscoe came in third in 1-meter while Audrey Capannari finished third in 3-meter
• On the men's side, Louis Hunt finished fourth in both events for the Bearcats
 
// SWIMMING SWEEPS
• Individual events started out strong as Rocky Laabs, Sydney St. Rose-Finear and Laura Johnston took the top three spots in the 1000 free
• The women also swept the 200 free with Lina Kutsko, Simone Palomo and Caroline Sheehan posting the top three times, respectively
Victoria Hunt won the 100 breast with a time of 1:04:54, followed by teammates Dee Sopapong and Grace Seibert
• Underclassmen represented in the 200 butterfly on the women's side. Sophomore Katie Qualls was the first to the wall while freshmen Camryn Streid and Victoria Miyamoto finished second and third
• The trio of Maddie Exton, Bailey Klafehn and Abby Johnston took the top three spots in the 50 free
• Kutsko picked up another win in the 100 free with Exton coming in second and Sheehan coming in third
• Sopapong was first to the wall in the 200 breast. Miyamoto finished second and Hunt third
• The men swept the 200 breast. Dominic Polling won the event. Dalton Lillibridge touched the wall second and Zach Baecker third
• St. Rose-Finear won her first collegiate event in the 500 free with Laabs and Qualls finishing close behind
• Kutsko won her third event of the evening in the 100 butterfly with teammates Palomo and Abby Johnston also making the podium
• Streid also earned a first collegiate victory. She won the 200 IM followed by Sopapong and Miyamoto


// OTHER VICTORIES
• The quartet of Obando, Sopapong, Abby Johnston and Claire Farrell won the 200 medley relay
• UC's men won the 200 medley relay, swam by Blake Hanna, Polling, Alberto Garcia and Alex Fortman
Toby Van Dyke finished first in the men's 1000 free
Natalie Obando won the 100 back and the 200 back
• Polling was first to the wall in the 100 breast and later on in the 200 IM
Parker Saladin won the 200 butterfly for the men and came in a three-way tie for first in the 100 butterfly
Alex Fortman sprinted to a first-place finish in the 50 free and also won the 100 free
Din Selmanovic won the 500 free
• Kutsko, Abby Johnston, Exton and Laabs rounded a strong night for the women with a win in the 400 free relay

• The Bearcats travel to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invite Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13
• UC returns home to the Keating Aquatic Center on Saturday, November 10 for a dual meet with Miami (OH)
