// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC, 25-18
Temple got off to an early start with a kill and block but UC scored the next three points on two attack errors and a Thompson ace. A big 6-0 run helped the Bearcats take a sizeable lead. Two more attack errors by the Owls, a block by Cabarkapa and Nolan, and kills from Cabarkapa, Nolan and Thompson made it 9-3. Temple was able to make it a one-point match as late as 17-16, but two kills by Maria Mallon and an ace served up by Nolan extended the UC lead. Sabrina Wolf made it set-point with an ace before Thompson ended it on the next play with a kill from Tingelhoff.
Set 2: UC, 25-23
Set two proved to be much closer, but the Bearcats were able to prevail. The beginning was a back-and-forth battle with neither team able to get out ahead by much. The Owls had a scoring spurt, scoring four of five points during a run to lead by two, 15-13. The Bearcats answered with a kill by Erica Kostelac and a block by Thompson and Cabarkapa to tie the set. Points were traded between the two teams before UC put together two straight. Cabarkapa and Nolan put up another block before Thompson slammed home another kill to put UC up 22-21. Once ahead 24-23 on a Kostelac kill, an attack error by the Owls handed the Bearcats a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3: UC, 28-26
It took extra time in a hard-fought final set. Once again, neither team was able to take much of an early lead. Down 6-5, UC scored five-straight on a block, kill and three Temple errors to lead 10-6. However, the Owls scored the next five points to get back in front by one. A Temple kill and block then a kill and two UC errors allowed the Owls to lead by as much as four, 17-13. Georgia Tselspi ended the streak with a kill and Mallon added two more to bring the lead back to within a point. Down the stretch, UC found itself trailing 20-18 but did not give in. Cabarkapa had a huge solo block to tie the set at 21 and then she and Thompson recorded a kill each to put the Bearcats on a 4-0 run. But, a 23-21 lead wasn't safe, as Temple then went on a run of its own to get ahead 24-23 and have a chance at set-point. Two kills from Thompson ended the threat and put the match-point in grasp of the Bearcats. The match wouldn't end there, though, as the Owls were able to get ahead 26-25. The Bearcats recorded three consecutive kills, two from Thompson and one from Tselspi, to tie it up at 26 and then to put the match away.
