VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) turned in University of Cincinnati women's golf's best score on Sunday with a 1-under-par 69 during the final round at the Old Dominion Princess Anne Invitational at Princess Anne Country Club.
Hitt finished the tournament in a team-high tie for 28th place. The Bearcats placed 12th after shooting their best round of the event, a final-round 289.
After struggling during Saturday's second round with a score of 79, Hitt bounced back in a big way with a 10-stroke improvement of 69 on Sunday to vault from a tie for 50th to a tie for 28th. The senior's round featured bogey-less golf on the front nine, including a birdie, and pars on seven holes and a birdie on the back.
Junior Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) also finished the tournament strong, recovering from a second-round 78 with a final-round 73 including saving par on 13 holes and birdieing hole No. 16. Sophomore Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia), too, made a nice save on Sunday with a 72 – her best round of the event – featuring a birdie on each of the front and back nine holes.
UC's most consistent performer over the three days, junior Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia), closed play in Virginia Beach with a 75 to finish in a tie for 33rd overall. She sank three birdies on Sunday.
The Bearcats will be back in action Oct. 21-23 at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
