Squires to Compete in Sun Bowl All-American Golf Classic

UC senior Austin Squires will compete in the 2018 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic, Nov. 18-20 at the El Paso County Club in El Paso, Texas.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) will compete in the 2018 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic, Nov. 18-20 at the El Paso County Club in El Paso, Texas. 

Squires is one of 29 amateurs from around the nation earning selection to the prestigious annual event that starts with the Titleist Long Drive Contest and PING Putting Contest on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. ET.  Rounds one and two are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 19 with a shotgun start scheduled for 10 a.m. ET. The final round is set for 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 20. 

The invitation is the latest honor for the decorated Bearcat who ranks 106th in the most recent world amateur golf rankings. Among his many past accomplishments, Squires was named the 2017 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, a two-time AAC First Team honoree (2017 and 2018), a two-time U.S. Amateur qualifier who advanced to the quarterfinals of match play in Pebble Beach, Calif., in August 2018, and a 2018 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar. He leads the 2018-19 Bearcats with a 71.91 stroke average. 

The Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic is one of the premier amateur golf tournaments in the country. Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III, Justin Thomas, Notah Begay and Jerry Pate are just a handful of past participants who went on to have successful PGA careers. College All-America Golf Classic Alumni have combined to win 52 major championships and have earned over $2 billion in career earnings.
