CINCINNATI - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its latest Graduation Success Rate data with the University of Cincinnati athletic department once again exceeding the national average as the Bearcats collectively recorded an 89 percent rate of 88. The Bearcats also have seen their GSR rise once again, this time by three points and seven points in total for the past two years.
The data released Wednesday is based upon a six-year cohort and includes only student-athletes who received athletic scholarships, enrolled at Cincinnati as freshmen or incoming transfers from 2008-11, and completed their degree within six years. Based upon that data, and for the second year in a row, 14 of the Bearcats' 15 programs hold GSR's of 75 percent or higher, including 10 programs at or over 89 percent, which is up two from last year's report. Adding to that, two men's programs and five women's each posted perfect 100 percent graduation of it's student-athletes, including men's golf, men's swimming & diving, women's cross country/track & field, lacrosse, women's swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball.
Historically, the first release of data followed the completion of the 2004-05 academic year with the UC athletic department carrying a 66 percent rate of graduation by its student-athletes. In the 14 years since then, the Bearcats have shot up 23 percentage points with an increase of 10 percentage points in total over the past three releases. After increasing three more points in the 2009-10 release, the Bearcats have not below 77 percent since.
