// COACH ALVEY'S COMMENT
"It was a five-set battle for sure this afternoon against a Tulane team who came in 11-0 in their last eleven matches, so a team that has playing with a lot of strengths and a lot of confidence. I thought today was definitely a full team effort. On paper, it was not necessarily our best game, but the things we talk about just being competitors, and even when you aren't playing your best, you have to compete and you have to find a way to win. I thought that this entire team today did that against a very strong team. They found a way to win. It was an awesome crowd with all of our campus support that we had. Seeing everyone from campus come out and check out volleyball, most of them I think for the first time, was a really fun atmosphere."

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC, 25-22

The opening set went back-and-forth until the Bearcats were able to take the first lead of more than one point at 9-7. A 3-0 run on a Nolan kill and two attack errors handed them the advantage. UC also went up 11-8 after a kill by Dasha Cabarkapa and an ace by Tingelhoff. UC also lead at the 15-12 mark as Nolan was deadly at the service line with three straight aces. Tulane worked back to make it a one-point set, 22-12. However, three Thompson kills in the final four plays made it a set win for the Bearcats.
Set 2: UC, 25-17
UC took less time getting out in front in set two. Mallon, Tingelhoff and Thompson followed each other with kills to take a 4-2 lead. Later on, a kill by Cabarkapa and a Tulane attack error put the lead at 8-6. The Bearcats scored four in a row with a kill by Mallon, two by Thompson and a Green Wave error, growing the UC lead to 12-7. The Bearcats used another 4-0 lead later on to take a 19-10 advantage. Thompson had two kills and Mallon served two aces during the streak. The set ended on two Tulane errors.
Set 3: Tulane, 25-16
An early 5-0 run helped the Bearcats get ahead as Mallon, Cabarkapa and Thompson all had kills and Nolan had an ace early on. But, the Green Wave answered and matched the run to pull ahead by one, 6-5. The set remained close before a 4-0 run helped Tulane start to pull away. After bringing the deficit to two on a 3-0 run with a kill by Nolan and back-to-back kills from Mallon, Tulane scored eight straight points to take command of the set. A service error ended the streak, but the Green Wave was able to pull out the set three victory.
Set 4: Tulane, 25-22
Tulane was able to go on an early run in the fourth set. UC called a timeout down 9-5 and came out of the break with a kill by Erica Kostelac. Back-to-back kills by Mallon and Thompson later on had the Bearcats trailing 11-8. UC pulled to within one of the lead with two kills by Kostelac and then tied the match at 17 with two kills by Thompson. Chrysanthi Stamatiou then gave UC the set lead with an ace. However, the advantage did not last as Tulane tied the set at 21 to start a 4-0 run. Nolan stopped the streak with a kill, but the Green Wave answered with a kill of their own to force a fifth set.
Set 5: UC, 15-13
The fifth set was intense from start to finish as UC staged a great comeback to win the match in the final points. Tulane took an early lead off two UC errors and an ace, putting the score at 4-1. A 3-0 run by the Green Wave made it a 9-4 set. The Bearcats slowly started to work back. A kill by Jones started a scoring spree where UC scored four of five points to make it a two-point set, 10-8. An attack error and block by Thompson and Cabarkapa brought the lead to one, 11-10, soon after. Down to the wire, Thompson took over and had her hand on the final five Bearcats' points on four kills and one block with Cabarkapa as UC put an emphatic exclamation point on the victory.
