The Turning Point: Cincinnati scored early and often to jump out to a 17-3 lead and never looked back on its way to a 26-point victory over visiting Western Michigan. Jarron Cumberland poured in 27 points to tie his career high to pace the Bearcats as they forced the Broncos into 17 turnovers and outrebounding the visitors by a 15 (42-27), including 13 offensive boards that led to 16 second chance points.

Leaders: Jarron Cumberland tallied a career-high tying 27 points to lead all scorers on the night as the junior was 11-of-19 from the floor in 32 minutes to help the Bearcats to their third win in a row. Nysier Brooks posted a career-high point total for the second game in a row as he netted 15 points and added 10 boards for back-to-back double-double while Cane Broome added 14 points to give the hosts three in double figures on the night. Michael Flowers was the top scorer for Western Michigan as he scored 23 points while Seth Dugan added 12 points for the visitors.

// TEAM NOTES
  • Cincinnati improved to 3-1 on the year after winning its third game in a row while Western Michigan slipped to 3-2 overall.
  • IN THE SERIES: With the victory, the Bearcats won their eighth game in a row in the series with the Broncos and improved to 16-1 all-time. Cincinnati is now 9-0 when the game is held in the Queen City (6-1 in Kalamazoo and 1-0 in neutral site games) with tonight's contest marking the first time the series has been played since December 17, 1966, when UC posted a 74-48 win inside the Armory Fieldhouse. Tonight's game also marked the fourth different home venue used in the series as the Bearcats were 1-0 at Schmidlapp Gym, 5-0 at the Cincinnati Gardens and 2-0 inside the Armory.
  • The Bearcats are now 36-2 at home since the start of the 2016-17 season and are 39-3 overall in the month of November since the start of the 2012-13 season.
  • HALFTIME REPORT: The Bearcats came out fast in the opening minutes with a 17-3 run to start the game with Jarron Cumberland tallying nine of his 19 first half points as Cincinnati took a 43-29 lead into the break. The Bearcats shot 50 percent from the field while limiting the Broncos to 30.4 percent shooting, despite an 18-point outburst from Michael Flowers, who was 5-of-8 overall and 3-of-3 from three. Cincinnati forced 10 WMU turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play while recording 10 assists, five steals and three blocks to build its 14-point advantage at the half.
  • Cincinnati scored 43 points in the first half, its highest output in the opening half so far this year. Last year, the Bearcats scored 40 or more points in the opening 20 minutes of play 11 times.
  • Following their season-opening setback to Ohio State (64-56), the Bearcats have increased their offensive output in each of their next three contests. Cincinnati scored 73 against North Carolina Central, 76 against Milwaukee and 78 tonight. The 26-point margin of victory tonight also is the largest of the young season, surpassing the 22-point win over N.C. Central.

  • Entering the season, Jarron Cumberland had scored 20 or more points in a game three times in his career and, through four games this year, has done so twice already after he dropped a career-high-tying 27 tonight. Dating back to last season, Cumberland has scored 20+ three times in his last six contests and either broke or tied his career high twice after scoring 27 last year in the NCAA Tournament against Georgia State (3/16/18) before tonight's performance.   • Nysier Brooks entered the season without recording a double-double with the Bearcats. Tonight, he made it back-to-back games as he once again recorded career-high totals in points (15) and rebounds (10) to help UC to victory. Brooks, who scored 12 points against N.C. Central and posted 10 boards for his first double-double (11/16/18), was 5-of-5 from the free throw line while adding one assist and two blocks while pulling down eight defensive and two offensive boards.
  • Rashawn Fredericks posted a pair of career-highs on the night as he tallied four points and added four steals. His point total is one better than the three he scored last time out against N.C. Central while his steal total doubled up his previous best of two, which he recorded twice this year, including in the last game against Milwaukee.
