CINCINNATI - Aaron Bienenfeld, who recently capped his first collegiate cross country season with the University of Cincinnati by placing 111th at the NCAA Championships, has earned a place on Team Germany for the upcoming 2018 European Cross Country Championships that will be held December 9 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Bienenfeld will represent his native land in the U23 competition.
On Sunday, November 25, Bienenfeld raced in the German National Championships in Darmstadt, Germany, just outside his hometown of Frankfurt, where he finished 13th overall and fourth among U23 runners with a time of 27:58.7 over the 9,000m course. He was officially selected to represent Germany November 28 as the German Federation announced its lineup for its four teams that will race in Tilburg, including men's and women's senior teams and men's and women's U23 squads.
With the Bearcats, Bienenfeld raced five times in 2018 and placed in the Top 12 in four of those races, including 12th at the NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships to earn USTFCCCA All-Region accolades while becoming the first UC runner to individually qualify to the national meet since 2011. The bronze medalist at the American Athletic Conference Championships, Bienenfeld added a pair of fourth-place and a single ninth-place finish to his resume as well.
