Bearcats Bounce California (Pa.) in Home Exhibition, 69-49

CINCINNATI – In its first game at Fifth Third Arena since February of 2017, University of Cincinnati women's basketball came away with a 69-49 exhibition victory over California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon inside the newly-renovated facility.

CINCINNATI – In its first game at Fifth Third Arena since February of 2017, University of Cincinnati women's basketball came away with a 69-49 exhibition victory over California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon inside the newly-renovated facility.
 
Junior forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) led the way for UC in the scoring column with a game-high 17 points, to go along with seven rebounds. Sophomore IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Nikira Goings (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) chipped in 11 points.
 
Competing at the new Fifth Third for the first time, the Bearcats fell behind early with the Vulcans taking a 12-point lead with 4:06 to go in the first quarter. The Red & Black responded with a 10-0 run over the duration of the period to trail just 13-11 at the end of one. The two teams competed closely in the second quarter with Cal U taking a narrow, 28-27 advantage into halftime.
 
The tight competition continued over the first half of the third quarter with the score knotted at 34. UC then manufactured a 10-4 run over the final five minutes of the third to lead 44-38 heading into the final period. In the fourth, the Bearcats took control of the game -- first with a 6-0 run early in the quarter to go up by 10, 50-40. The Bearcats pushed their lead to 14 midway through the period and ended the game on an 11-5 surge to come away with a 69-49 victory.
 
For the game, UC shot the ball at a 54-percent (29-of-54) clip, including 10-for-14 in the fourth quarter. The Red & Black outrebounded the Vulcans, 42-27, and scored 11 points off of 13 offensive rebounds. In addition, the Bearcats scored 44 points in the paint and had their reserves chip in 33 points. The fast-paced home team also got out in transition for 17 points.
