University of Cincinnati swimming and diving got started on a busy week of competition. The team completed its first events at US Winter Nationals and the Miami Invitational.
// US WINTER NATIONALS
• The first event of the meet was the 800 free held Wednesday night. Rocky Laabs competed for the Bearcats women while Tyler Jones placed 14th and Din Selmanovic 18th for the men
• On Thursday night, Jones and Selmanovic were back in action in the 400 free
• Dominic Polling put forth an impressive sixth place finish in the finals of the 200 IM
// MIAMI INVITATIONAL
• The Miami Invitational got underway with the 200 free relay where Molly Chelovitz, Maddie Exton, Abby Johnston and Claire Farrell placed third
• Hans Kabelka, Kevin McCaffrey, Justin Crew and Alex Fortman won the same event with the eighth fastest time in UC history of 1:21.80
• Sydney St. Rose-Finear finished fourth in the 500 free
• Francisco Arevalo Rubio and Crew took second and third, respectively, in the 500 free final with George Epsly coming in fifth
• Remington Oland's second-place swim in the 200 IM was the ninth-fastest time in UC history while Connor Blatt finished third with the tenth-fastest time
• Toby Van Dyke took third in the 200 IM, Nick Sharp was fifth and Blake Hanna was sixth for a strong Bearcats showing
• Farrell was second in the 50 free and Johnston was fifth
• Alex Fortman finished second in the men's 50 free with Kabelka in fourth and McCaffrey in fifth
• Alexandra Wall, Victoria Hunt, Camryn Streid and Farrell took third in the 400 medley relay for UC
• Hanna, Zach Baecker, Arevalo Rubio and Fortman were third in the 400 medley relay on the men's side
• In diving, Gus Staubitz was eighth in men's tower while Claire Schuermann was sixth and Tricia Roscoe seventh in women's tower

• Friday's events at UC Winter Nationals will be: 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back
• At Miami, the Bearcats will be competing in 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back
• Prelims in Oxford, Ohio, begin at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
