CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's golf head coach Janet Carl announced Friday the signings of Paighton Masterson and Natalia Sompolvorachai to National Letters of Intent (NLI) to join the Bearcats beginning with the 2019-20 season.
"Assistant coach Brad Smith and I are very excited to welcome these two girls to our program," said Carl. "They are both seasoned golfers that still have a lot of growth ahead of them. They each are the type of player we look for to continue the groundwork we have laid. We also know they have great academics and involvement in their communities and will help us continue our team's academic and community successes, along with elevating the competitiveness of our golf program."
Ranked as the No. 9 prospect in Ohio in the 2019 class, Masterson (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) is a two-time Southwestern Conference Player of the Year (2017 & 2018) and was named The Morning Journal Golfer of the Year three-straight years (2016-18). An All-Ohio Scholar Athlete, Masterson reached the 2018 Ohio High School State Championship as an individual and finished 23rd overall. In addition, she won the Ohio Girls Golf Foundation Showcase twice and set an Avon Lake High School record with a round of 64 at the Medina Invitational Tournament.
The No. 10 recruit in Ohio in the 2019 class, Sompolvorachai (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) was a 2018 Capital Conference Honorable Mention and Second Team All-District selection. A three-time Ohio High School State Championship participant, she led her Olentangy Orange High School team to a title in 2017 and a runner-up finish in 2018. Prior to her time at Olentangy Orange, Sompolvorachai attended and competed for Lakota West High School and was named 2017 Cincinnati Enquirer Girls Golf Player of the Year and 2016 Greater Miami Conference Champion and Player of the Year. She was also a 2017 Ohio Capital Conference First Team pick and a Second-Team All-District Honoree. The 2017 Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Women's Sports Association High School Player of the Year, Sompolvorachai has a career-low-scoring mark of 70 and was the 2016 Southern Ohio PGA Junior Tour Player of the Year runner-up.
