CINCINNATI - The American Athletic Conference has announced its first set of weekly award winners for the 2019 indoor track & field season with University of Cincinnati senior Loretta Blaut being named the AAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Blaut was selected for the award following another impressive meet in the high jump as she opened the season with a win at Indiana last week.

Blaut, the NCAA runner-up in the high jump at both the 2018 indoor and 2018 outdoor meets, opened her final collegiate season by winning the Hoosier Open last Friday with a clearance of 1.82m (5-11.50). That clearance not only won the meet, but put her into the national lead among all collegiate competitors so far this year.

Prior to her winning clearance, she also cleared 1.76m and 1.79m, giving her three of the Top 10 clearances of the nation last week. According to the USTFCCCA Top 10 Marks listing, Blaut's clearances ranked #1 (1.82m), tied for #2 (1.79m) and tied for #6 (1.76m) across all divisions in collegiate competition last week. She now leads the national by one inch as the Bearcats head into the holiday break.

Last year, Blaut was twice honored as the women's field athlete of the week as she earned the indoor accolade February 6 and the outdoor honor April 3. She also was twice named the AAC Most Outstanding Performance Award winner for women's field competitors at both AAC Championship events in 2018.

Blaut and her teammates will return to action January 11-12 when they travel to Lexington, Ky., to compete in Kentucky's Jim Greene Invitational.
