TicketsPROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced Monday its Weekly Awards with University of Cincinnati women's basketball sophomore forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) earning the Player of the Week honor.
Thomas garnered the award after pacing five Bearcats in double-figures with a career-high-tying 20 points -- as well as a career-best 18 rebounds – in a 79-61 victory over the Xavier Musketeers on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena in the 2018 edition of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. Thomas also tied a career best with four assists.
On the season, Thomas is averaging team highs of 11.1 points and 6.7 rebounds in 25 minutes each contest. In her last three games, the forward averaged 17.3 points and 10.3 rebounds.
Entering Monday, she is second in the AAC in field goal percentage at 65 percent on the year. In addition, the forward is 11th in rebounding and 23rd in scoring.
The weekly accolade is Thomas' second in as many weeks after being picked for the Honor Roll last week after averaging 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds the week prior. In total, the sophomore has received weekly league recognition seven times in her career, including five Freshman of the Week honors last season.
