CINCINNATI – Rashawn Fredericks has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Cincinnati and play basketball for the Bearcats beginning with the 2018-19 season, head coach Mick Cronin announced Tuesday.

"We are very excited about Rashawn joining our program," Cronin said. "He is a great guy and a winner, who led his team to two national tournament appearances and is the all-time leading rebounder at his school.  He can play three positions and defend all five which makes him perfect for us. Rashawn can shoot the three as well."

Fredericks, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard/forward played the last two seasons at Motlow State Community College in Tennessee, averaging double-doubles in points and rebounds each season while helping lead the Bucks to a combined 53-14 record, back-to-back state championships and a final eight appearance at the 2016-17 NJCAA national tournament.

Fredericks was named 2017-18 NJCAA First Team All-America and the TCCAA Regular-Season Player of the Year last season, averaging 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting 46.7 percent from the field as a sophomore. His rebounding average ranked 18th in the nation while his 117 offensive rebounds were listed 12th nationally.  He scored 36 points on 14-of-26 shooting from the floor with nine rebounds in an NJCAA Tournament second-round loss to No. 3 Vincennes.

As a freshman, Fredericks averaged 13.1 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 41.1 percent from beyond the arc, helping Motlow State to a 30-6 overall record. He was named the TCCAA/Region VII Freshman of the Year and was selected all-conference and all-region first team.

Fredericks scored 1,001 points, averaging 15.2 points during his two-year career at Motlow State while finishing second in school history with 769 rebounds.

A native of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Fredericks attended Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Fla. He played for the Virgin Islands senior men's national team in the 2017 FIBA AmericCup Tournament and the Under-17 national team in the FIBA 2013 Centrobasket U-17 Championships. His squad finished fourth at both events.

Fredericks will have two seasons of eligibility with the Bearcats. He joins LaQuill Hardnett, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward from Perry Hall High School in Nottingham, Maryland, and Logan Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard from Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California, as newcomers to Cincinnati's 2018-19 roster.

"Rashawn, Logan and LaQuill make up a class of versatile players that are all great young men," Cronin said. "My staff has done a great job identifying prospects that will be solid additions for our University as well as our program."
