TicketsPROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball junior guard Sam Rodgers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East) has earned American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll distinction, the league office announced Monday.
Rodgers picked up the accolade after recording a career performance Sunday in UC's AAC-opening, 69-57 home victory over SMU. The Cincinnati native scored a career-best 20 points – 17 of which came in the first half – including a career-high five 3-pointers. The guard was a catalyst in a game-changing, late-second-quarter 15-0 Bearcats run with three triples. In addition, she tallied another career mark with two blocks.
On the season, Rodgers is averaging 10.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. In her last six contests, the guard averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 made trifectas.
Entering Monday, she is fourth in the conference in free-throw percentage (.828, 24-of-29) and 25th in scoring average.
Monday marks the fourth week in a row a UC player has garnered accolades from the conference with sophomore forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) tabbed the previous three weeks. This is the first weekly honor of Rodgers' career.
