TicketsSTORRS, Conn. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball's four-game winning streak was halted Wednesday night with an 82-38 loss to the third-ranked UConn Huskies at Gampel Pavilion.
Junior guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) led the way for the Bearcats (9-6, 1-1 AAC) with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Sophomore forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) chipped in nine points and four rebounds.
UC fell victim to a 17-0 Huskies (13-1, 2-0 AAC) run to begin the game and couldn't recover. Looking for some sort of spark in the opening half, UC found it with senior Maya Benham (Douglasville, Ga./Osborne) coming off the bench to score a team-high eight points as the Red & Black faced a 49-19 deficit at intermission. UC's struggles compounded with a near-six-minute scoring drought to begin the third quarter and was unable to catch up over the duration of the contest.
The Red & Black dished out nine assists on 15 made field goals and was edged just 13-11 in scoring in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats also got out on the fast break for nine points and scored 11 points off of 12 UConn turnovers. In addition, UC knocked down four 3-pointers – two each by Benham and Miller.
