CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati defensive tackle Cortez Broughton will play in the 94th annual East-West Shrine Game on Saturday, January 19, at 3 p.m. ET from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Shrine Game, which features some of college football's best prospects, will be televised live on NFL Network. Broughton, a native of Warner Robins, Georgia, will wear his usual No. 96 while suiting up for the East squad.

A First-Team All-American Athletic Conference selection at defensive tackle, Broughton ranked No. 3 in the AAC in tackles for a loss (1.35/g) and No. 5 in sacks (0.50/g). He finished with 51 tackles, 17.5 for a loss with 6.5 sacks, five passes defended, four QB hurries and a forced fumble. His season numbers for sacks and TFLs (6.5/17.5) surpassed his career numbers entering 2018 (3.5 sacks, 10 TFL). Broughton totaled a career-best 3.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks in the 2018 opener at UCLA. He finished with five or more stops on six occasions and set a career mark with 10 tackles against Navy.

This is the fourth-straight year a former Bearcats standout has made a Shrine Game roster and the 24th time overall with Parker Ehinger (2015), Gunner Kiel (2016) and Linden Stephens (2017) earning recent roster spots.

For more than 90 years, some of football's greatest players and coaches have contributed to the tradition of the East-West Shrine Game, the nation's first college all-star football game. Created by the Shriners in 1925, the game is driven by the desire to support Shriners Hospitals for Children in its mission to help children in need of expert medical care. Participating players make an annual visit to the local Shriners Hospital, visiting children and staff in an experience that they will truly never forget.
