CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) will compete in one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the country when he takes part in the Jones Cup Invitational, Feb. 1-3, at Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.
"The competition will be fantastic," Squires said. "It's my first tournament in a while but I'm going to give my 'A' game and see how I stack up against some of the best guys in amateur golf."

The 54-hole, invitational only stroke-play event brings together many of the finest amateurs in the Unites States and abroad. Past participants range from current and future PGA Tour stars Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson, Chris Kirk, Jeff Overton, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Gary Woodland as well as Past Champions DJ Trahan, Gregg Jones, Nicholas Thompson, Luke List, Kyle Stanley, Patrick Reed and John Peterson.
Squires, who ranks No. 115 in the latest world amateur golf rankings, advanced to the quarterfinals of match play at the 2018 U.S. Amateur on Aug. 17 in Pebble Beach, Calif. He also was one of 29 amateurs to compete in the 2018 Sun Bowl All-American Golf Classic, Nov. 18-20 at the El Paso County Club in El Paso, Texas.
Squires was named the 2017 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and participated in the 2017 NCAA Regional in West Lafayette, Ind. He currently leads the 2018-19 Bearcats with a 70.81 stroke average.
