PHILADELPHIA – University of Cincinnati women's basketball dropped a 78-70 decision to the Temple Owls on Sunday afternoon at McGonigle Hall.

With the score tied at 57 just seconds into the fourth quarter, the Bearcats (16-9, 8-4 AAC) fell victim to a 12-0 Owls (9-15, 5-6 AAC) run and couldn't recover down the stretch.

For the third-straight game, five UC players scored in double figures with junior guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) leading the way with 16 points. Sophomore forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds, while junior forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) added 11 points. In addition, junior guard Florence Sifa (Bujumbura, Burundi/Jacksonville College) and senior guard Nikira Goings (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) both came off the bench to score a combined 20 points with each posting 10. Sifa also grabbed a team-high-tying nine rebounds.

Looking for their fourth-straight road conference win, the Bearcats started slowly, falling behind, 8-0, four minutes into the game. UC stormed back with a 9-0 run to take the lead with 3:12 left in the opening quarter. The two teams went back and forth over the duration of the period with the Owls pulling ahead, 18-15, at the end of one. In the second quarter, the Red & Black saw the home team surge ahead, accumulating a 37-22 lead with 2:36 to go until halftime. The Bearcats answered with an 8-0 run to end the period to trail just 37-30 at the break.

After trailing by as many as 10 points early in the third quarter, UC manufactured a 13-0 run to take a 45-42 advantage midway through the period. The two teams answered one another through the duration of the stanza with Temple taking a slight, 57-54 lead into the final quarter. Following Miller burying a 3-pointer seconds into the fourth period, the Owls put together a 12-0 run to hop into the driver's seat. The Red & Black fought back to trail by just four points with a minute to go, but the home team was able to stave off a Bearcats comeback down the stretch.

UC shot the ball from the field at a 40-percent clip and knocked down six 3-pointers. The team struggled at the free-throw line, though, with 14-of-24 makes. The Bearcats turned 11 Owls turnovers into 18 points and trailed slightly on the glass, 46-43. Additionally, the Red & Black scored 26 points in the paint, got out in transition for 14 points, and dished out nine assists.
