FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – University of Cincinnati women's golf sophomore Vanessa Manrique (Bogotá, Colombia) followed a first-round 71 with a second-round 78 to pace the Bearcats in a tie for 13th place following the first and second rounds at the sixth annual Amelia Island Collegiate at Amelia National Golf and Country Club.

As a team, the Bearcats are in sixth place – out of 16 teams -- after totaling 606 following two rounds.

In the first tournament of the spring season, Manrique carded a stellar first round with a 1-under-par 71, including five birdies. The sophomore regressed a bit in the second, bogeying six holes en route to a 78 which dropped her down to a tie for 13th on the player leaderboard.

With the rest of the scoring team shooting 76 or higher in the opening round, much of the group bounced back over the next 18 holes with a number of strong improvements. Junior Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) responded to a first-round 77 with a 74 in the second with two birdies and 12 pars. Sophomore Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia) registered a one-stroke improvement in the second round by holding par on 13 holes and sinking a birdie to shoot a 75. Senior Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) had a significant bounce-back performance with a 78 in the second after recording an 84 in the first.

The third and final round of the tournament will begin Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start. Follow along with live scoring here.

// HEAD COACH JANET CARL ON THE BEARCATS
"I am proud of the effort the ladies gave today. It is really hard to have your first event be a 36-hole day, especially when you are only allowed 18 practice holes and are at the mercy of the weather. We knew there would be flashes of brilliance and wanted the players to focus on those and not needs-work shots. Today was a team effort that included fighting through all 10 hours. Our goal tomorrow is to go out and have more good and great shots than today. The Bearcats battled today and will fight to the finish tomorrow."
