HOUSTON, Texas – University of Cincinnati baseball fell 5-4 in the opening game of the series at Houston Baptist Friday afternoon.
The Bearcats held the lead for the majority of the game until the Huskies put up a four-run eighth to get in front. UC scored two in the final frame, but was not able to muster another run to extend the contest.

• Jeremy Johnson continued to do well at the plate with a 3-for-4 day with a walk
• Joey Wiemer and Wyatt Stapp both had two hits with Wiemer hitting a double and Stapp picking up a RBI and scoring a run
• Dondrae Bremner had UC's other extra-base hit of the day, a triple
• A.J. Kullman had a good bounce-back start on the mound. He went 4.0 innings with no runs, three hits, one walk and one strikeout
• His lone K came with two runners in scoring position and two outs. After getting down 3-0 in the at-bat, he worked back to get the batter looking
• Drake Batcho followed with 2.0 innings of work with one run, two hits and two strikeouts
• Chase Stewart and Nathan Moore also appeared in relief

• Bremner got the scoring started when he tripled to lead off the third then ran home on a wild pitch

• The Bearcats tacked another run on when Stapp and Jeremy Johnson singled before Stapp was drove home on a RBI base hit by Cole Murphy
Bottom of the 6th
• The Huskies got on the board with a single, double and sacrifice fly. However, their rally was cut short when a strikeout ended the frame
Bottom of the 8th
• HBU found late life to take the lead. A double started the inning and was followed by a sacrifice bunt fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with no outs. A perfectly executed bunt allowed a run to come home as the first out of the frame came on the batter. A double, triple and single allowed three more runs to come home and make it a 5-2 game
Top of the 9th
• UC worked back but couldn't get back ahead. The rally started when Jace Mercer was hit by a pitch and A.J. Bumpass earned a full-count walk. Stapp then laced a single up the middle for his RBI. With runners on the corners, Johnson then singled to center to score the final run of the game.
