HOUSTON, Texas – University of Cincinnati baseball lost a pitchers' duel Saturday afternoon as Houston Baptist was able to walk off on a base hit in the bottom of the ninth, winning 2-1.
There were only eight hits total in the game. UC took advantage of two HBU errors while playing solid defensively behind a good start on the mound by Nathan Kroger.
// NOTABLES
• Kroger gave up just one run and three hits in 6.0 innings while striking out four
• He loaded the bases and walked in his only run, but UC's defense came up with a double play to end the threat in the second inning
• Evan Shawver threw the final 2.1 frames with one run, two hits and two strikeouts
• Joey Wiemer had the best day at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance

Bottom of the 2nd
• HBU scored the first run of the contest after a hit batter, double and walk loaded the bases and another walk allowed a run to come home. With bases loaded and only one out, UC got out of the jam with limited damage by turning an around-the-horn double play
Top of the 7th
• The Bearcats tied the game up late. The inning started with a walk to Wyatt Stapp before Wiemer bunted his way on base and both runners advanced on a throwing error. A fielder's choice by Joey Bellini put runners on the corner with two outs. Bellini then attempted to steal second and the Huskies' first baseman threw the ball away which allowed Wiemer to slide into home
Bottom of the 9th
• The Huskies walked off after a base hit, sacrifice bunt, intentional walk and a bloop single to right field
// UP NEXT
• The finale at HBU will be Sunday at 2 p.m. ET
• Midweek play begins on Tuesday as the Bearcats travel to take on Indiana
• UC then is on the road again next weekend for another three-game series at Auburn
