CINCINNATI – For the second time in three weeks, the American Athletic Conference has selected University of Cincinnati lacrosse junior Monica Borzillo as its Attacker of the Week, the league announced today. Borzillo, who earned the inaugural attacker award two weeks ago, posted 14 points on 10 goals and four assists in a 1-1 week that saw the Bearcats fall on the road at #23 Virginia Tech before bouncing back to defeat Detroit Mercy at home Sunday.

In her games with the Hokies and Titans, Borzillo led the Bearcats in most categories as she posted team-highs in points (14), goals (10), assists (4), ground balls (8) and caused turnovers (5). First, she netted four goals and added an assist in a 19-8 loss at VT before bouncing back to bag six goals and add three assists in an 18-8 win over UDM. On a game level, her goals against the Titans, which also saw her go a perfect 3-of-3 in free-position shots, rank as the third-most in a single game in AAC history while her nine points are the second-most in AAC history behind the 11 she tallied against Kent State earlier this year.
Borzillo also ranks highly on the national scene. According to the Feb. 25 NCAA statistics update, Borzillo is the national leader in goals scored (22) and points (34) while sitting fourth in assists (12). She also ranks second in points per game average (6.80), 12th in goals per game average (4.40) and 25th in assists per game average (2.40).
With her offensive showing last week and her career, Borzillo, who already has taken ownership of the career assists category at UC with 73, added another career record to her ledger as she now has 176 points in her two-plus seasons with the Bearcats, surpassing Laura Simanski's 169 (153-16) she recorded from 2009-12. With 103 goals, Borzillo is third all-time in UC history and one off the #2 spot as well.

This week's award is the second for Borzillo this season and the fifth attacker award she has earned after garnering three in the Big East last year. An 11-time award winner, she has also been selected as the Big East Freshman of the Week five times and earned one selection the Big East weekly Honor Roll as well.

The Bearcats will play a pair of foes on the road this weekend as they will travel north to Michigan to face both Central Michigan and #20 Michigan. UC and CMU will meet in Mt. Pleasant at 3 p.m. Friday before the Bearcats and Wolverines square off in Ann Arbor Sunday at 1 p.m. The games will be the first of three road games in a row for UC after its played four of its five games of 2019 at home.
