CINCINNATI – Kylie Nause, a freshman on the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team, was today selected as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week following an offensive explosion last week. Nause tallied seven goals in two games, including a career-high four at #20 Michigan.
// ... GATHERS NO NAUSE
Nause entered the weekend with two goals to her credit (in five games) before breaking out in a big way as she netted several firsts, including her first multiple-goal game, her first hat trick and her first four-goal game as she tallied seven goals in two games. In the opener, she scored three goals for her first multiple-goal game and her first hat trick as UC fell in overtime at Central Michigan, 12-11. Then, she earned her first collegiate start at #20 Michigan and not only scored the first goal of the game just 40 seconds into the contest, but helped UC to a 5-4 halftime lead on the road. She led the team in scoring with four goals on the day as well. Nause is now fourth on the team in goals scored (9) and fifth in points (9) in the early going of her career.
// ROOKIE AWARDS
Nause's honor this week is the first of her career and the first freshman honor earned by a Bearcats player as a member of the AAC. Nause joins Monica Borzillo, who assisted on her final two goals, as the only players in UC history to earn a weekly rookie award from a conference after Borzillo was selected as the Big East Freshman of the Week five times during the 2017 season.
// RUNNING TOTAL
With her honor, Nause is third UC player to earn one of the major four weekly awards after Borzillo was twice named the attacker of the week (Feb. 12 and Feb. 26) and Alyssa Adams the midfielder of the week (Feb. 19) while also marking the fourth week in a row a Bearcats player has earned one of the major honors. All told, Nause's award is the sixth total award earned this year by UC after both Sam Mlkvy (Feb. 12) and Taylor Gysin (Feb. 19) were selected for the weekly Honor Roll.
