CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team, trailing by as many as 10 goals twice in the second half, put together a strong comeback in the later part of the game, but it was not enough as the Bearcats fell on the road at Louisville Thursday morning, 18-12. Taylor Gysin score five goals for the Bearcats (3-5) to help spark the second half rally, but the Cardinals (4-6) were able to hang one for the win.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Thursday's game was a collection of streaks as the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead with Tessa Chad scoring twice and three others chipping in a goal. The Bearcats got on the board at the 22:01 mark as Gysin scored her first of the game on an assist from Borzillo before she came right back and scored again less than one minute later to make it 5-2. Nause grabbed her first of the game just over one minute later before Gysin completed her hat trick on a pass from Mlkvy to make it 5-4 UL at the 19:37 mark. The Cardinals responded, however, and ripped off four goals of their own to close out the first half and make the scored 9-4 at the break.
UC got the scoring started in the second half as Amanda Donovan took a pass from Jayde Sains and buried the shot to bring the Bearcats to within four once again (9-5), but UL responded with another run of goals, this time scoring six in a row to bring the score to 15-5 with 16:23 remaining. Alyssa Adams scored her lone goal of the day one minute later before UL brought the advantage back to 10 goals again with a goal at 14:03. Despite the deficit, the Bearcats continued to battle and ran off five goals in a row with Nause scoring twice while single goals were recorded by Mlkvy, Gysin and Napoletano to bring the score to 16-11 with 7:00 remaining. UC tried to find more goals, but were unable to get the total they needed as UL scored twice with Gysin bagging her fifth between those two scores to bring about the final score of 18-12.

Gysin recorded her third hat trick of the year with five goals, a total that stands as her second-highest goal output in her career behind only the six she scored earlier this year against Marquette. Ranking second on the team in goals scored with 16 in eight games, Gysin is already closing in on her freshman season total of 22 goals scored last year in 17 games played.

Nause scored three goals on the day, marking the third game in a row the freshman has recorded a hat trick after scoring just two total goals in her first five games of the year. Nause opened this stretch with three at Central Michigan before adding a career-high four at #20 Michigan the last time out. She is now fourth on the team in goals scored this year and one of just five players to have 10 or more in 2019.

Both Mlkvy and Borzillo tied for the team lead in assists on the game as the duo each dished out three helpers each on the day. For Mlkvy, that total tied her career high set last year against ECU while Borzillo notched her seventh 'helping hat trick' of the year to bring her season total to 22, the fourth-most in a single season. The duo recorded six of the team's nine assists, a total that ties for the ninth-most in a single game in program history.
