CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer won its opening game of the Columbus Crew Spring College League Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Marshall at Gettler Stadium. After an even 90 minutes, the Bearcats edged the Herd in a penalty-kick shootout to secure the win.
In its first competition of the spring season, the Red & Black struck first in the 13th minute when junior defender Aerin West (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) deposited a score off of a sophomore midfielder Moritz Schaller (Austria/Vienna University) corner kick and touch by junior forward Rex Epps (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork/Army West Point) to put UC up 1-0. Marshall answered in the 36th minute with a goal by Jamil Roberts to even the match heading into halftime.
