Women’s Basketball to Welcome Youngstown State Thursday in WNIT First Round

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball earned an automatic berth in the 2019 Women's National Invitation Postseason Tournament (WNIT) and will host Youngstown State in first-round action on Thursday, March 21 at Fifth Third Arena. The game time is yet to be finalized and will be announced on Tuesday.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball earned an automatic berth in the 2019 Women's National Invitation Postseason Tournament (WNIT) and will host Youngstown State in first-round action on Thursday, March 21 at Fifth Third Arena. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. ET.
 
Single-game general admission tickets for the first two rounds of the tournament are only $5, while reserved seating inside the Champions Club is just $7. Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to reserve their season seat locations by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX. UC and YSU students can gain free admission to Fifth Third Arena (FTA) by presenting their valid student ID. UC faculty and staff (and guests) can also get in free by showing their Bearcats Card. Children three years of age and under, too, will receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased by either calling 1-877-CATS-TIX, logging onto GoBEARCATS.com/Tickets, or by visiting the FTA ticket office on gameday.
 
The selection marks the second-straight year the Bearcats have been tabbed for the WNIT. Last season, UC was edged 81-75 at Michigan State in the tournament's first round. In total, the Red & Black has made the WNIT nine times and holds a 3-5 all-time record.

The dates for the 64-team tournament are as follows:
Round 1 – March 20-22
Round 2 – March 23-26
Round 3 – March 27-29
Round 4 – March 30-31
Semifinals – April 3-4
Championship – Saturday, April 6, 3 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network)
 
The 2019 Postseason WNIT field will consist of 32 automatic berths – one from each established conference – and 32 at-large teams. All games are in single-elimination format. Additional information about the postseason WNIT can be accessed here.
 
UC (21-10, 12-4 AAC) is aiming to continue its best season since 2003 into the postseason. The Bearcats' historic accomplishments this season include their first 20-win season since 2003, first time with 12 or more conference wins since 1999, highest-ever finish in the American Athletic Conference (third place), and first time with three or more regular-season conference honorees since 2003. Sophomore forward IImar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) was selected First Team All-AAC, junior guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) was picked Second Team, and junior guard Florence Sifa (Bujumbura, Burundi/Jacksonville College) was tabbed American Newcomer of the Year. The Red & Black also reached the league championship semifinals for the second-consecutive season after defeating Memphis in the quarterfinals on March 9.
