TAMPA, Fla. – University of Cincinnati baseball took the series from USF on Sunday as Garrett Schoenle led the team with a phenomenal performance on the mound.
 
The sophomore pitched into the ninth, giving up just four hits in 8.1 innings while striking out a career-best 12 batters. The one run he did allow came in the final inning after he left the game with one out and two runners on.
 
The Bearcats' offense did its part, scoring one run in four straight innings and being aggressive on the base paths with six stolen bases.

• UC moves to 8-14 on the season and 2-1 in conference play
• USF drops to 12-10 and 1-2
• Korren Thompson followed Schoenle on the mound to get the save in back-to-back days
• Wyatt Stapp, Cole Murphy and Jeremy Johnson all had two hits in the game
• Wiemer led the base runners with three stolen bags
• All of UC's nine hits were singles

Top of the 2nd
Murphy started off UC's scoring with a single before A.J. Bumpass walked and Bellini hustled out a bunt single to load the bases. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Mason DeAnna allowed Murphy to score
Top of the 3rd
• The Bearcats scored again during the next frame when Joey Bellini was hit, Stapp singled and Murphy swung at the first pitch he was offered and picked up an RBI with a base hit to right field
Top of the 4th
• The third run came via a Johnson single after DeAnna was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch
Top of the 5th
• UC scored for the fourth consecutive inning when Joey Wiemer was hit, stole two bases and scored on a single by Bumpass
Bottom of the 9th
• A single and two walks loaded the bases for the Bulls before a ground out let in the only run they would score. With runners on second and third with two outs, Jace Mercer fielded a ground ball to second and Murphy was able to hang on to complete the out to end the game

• UC will host NKU on Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m.
• The Bearcats resume conference play on Friday, March 29 to host Tulane for a three-game series
