TicketsGULF SHORES, Ala. – University of Cincinnati women's golf sophomore Amalia Shahzan (Kedah, Malaysia) carded a 1-under-par 71 in the second round Saturday at the South Alabama/UAB Bama Beach Bash at Gulf Shores Golf Club to move into second place overall and just three shots off the lead.
As a team, the Bearcats had an 18-stroke improvement from Friday's first round with a second-round 299 to remain solidly in fourth place.
Shahzan progressed from Friday's 77 with a career-best 71 on Saturday to jump from a tie for fourth to alone in second. Her stellar round featured a pair of birdies and 15 par scores.
Junior Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia) stayed steady today with another score of 77, including three birdies, and is currently in a tie for 13th heading into Sunday's third and final round.
Junior Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) had UC's most dramatic improvement on Saturday with a 15-stroke improvement to a 76. Freshman Lily Rinker (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy), too, had a strong bounce-back performance with a score of 75 following a first-round 86.
