University of Cincinnati baseball returns home to Marge Schott Stadium for a 4 p.m. matchup with NKU on Wednesday.

// SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
NKU sits at 4-16 this season and plays at home against Butler Tuesday night
• The Norse swept their first conference series, three home games against Youngstown State, two weekends ago
• In early March, NKU earned a victory in game two of a double header at VMI
• UC is 32-15 all-time against NKU
• The Bearcats opened their home schedule against the Norse last year and won 5-3 in walk-off fashion
• The two teams met for a weekend series in 2017 with UC winning two out of three games

// LATE LIFE
• The Bearcats have scored runs in the ninth inning in three of their last four games
• Last week they plated two in the ninth at Wright State
• In the first game at USF, UC scored when Jeremy Johnson singled, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly after bases became loaded. They could not bring in any other runs and fell 4-2
• The Bearcats won on Saturday with a ninth-inning rally. After scoring three in the seventh to trail by one, Jace Mercer tied the game with a homerun in the ninth before Joey Bellini and Wyatt Stapp singled. Cole Murphy earned the game-winning RBI with a single through the right side

// SCHOENLE'S SUPERB
Sophomore Garrett Schoenle has found his grove in his last two starts
• He has thrown 14.1 innings in his last two outings to go 2-0 with two earned runs, just seven hits, five walks and an impressive 21 strikeouts
• His ERA in the last two starts is a 1.26 while he has given up just one extra-base hit in that span
• Schoenle was honored as the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after a career-high 8.1 innings with 12 strikeouts at USF on Sunday to clinch the series victory
• His 12 punch outs were the most of any UC pitcher since February 19, 2006

// ON THE RISE
• A few Bearcats have played a role in the team's recent success at the plate
A.J. Bumpass is currently on a twelve game hit streak and hit homeruns in back-to-back days this past weekend
Jace Mercer has been doing his job in the leadoff spot, reaching base in the last eleven games
Joey Bellini and Mitch Holding have also been successful at the plate, as they are both on nine-game reach base streaks
