CINCINNATI – Coming off two big wins, three members of the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team have been selected for honors from the American Athletic Conference, including two of the four major accolades. This week, Monica Borzillo was named the AAC Attacker of the Week, Kylie Nause earned AAC Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row and Alyssa Adams was added to the weekly Honor Roll as the Bearcats won back-to-back games to even their record to 5-5 on the year.
// BORZILLO'S BIG GAMES
Borzillo, who earned the attacker honor from the AAC for the third time this year, tallied 14 points on 10 goals and four assists over the weekend, including nine points on six goals and three assists in a 22-9 defeat of Gardner-Webb, the second-highest point total recorded in the AAC this year. She also scored four goals and added one assist as UC handed San Diego State just its second loss of the year, 17-11. For the year, Borzillo has accumulated 59 points on 33 goals and 26 assists, ranking fourth nationally in points, ninth in assists and 21st in goals while leading the AAC in both points and assists. Borzillo has now tallied at least one point in 27 consecutive games while recording at least one assist in 11 in a row, breaking her previous record of 10 games in a row.
// PILING ON
The award earned by Borzillo is her third this year and the sixth attacker accolade she has earned after being named the Big East Attacker of the Week three times last year. For her career, Borzillo has now earned 12 weekly honors between the two leagues as she was a five-time Big East Freshman of the Week in 2017 along with once being selected to the weekly Honor Roll that same year.
// STREAKING
Nause had two more impressive games over the weekend to earn her second-consecutive and third overall selection as the AAC Freshman of the Week in 2019. She opened the weekend with three goals against SDSU and added her first career assist to tie her single-game high of four points before coming back in the next game against GWU to score four goals and add another assist to tally a career-best five points. Over the past five games, Nause has netted five hat tricks and scored 17 of her 19 goals in that span.
// ROOKIE AWARDS
Nause's honor this week is not only the third of her career after earning the award in back-to-back weeks, it also marks the third week in a row that UC has played games that Nause has been honored (the Bearcats were off from competition between her first and second times earning the accolade). The first freshman honored for the Bearcats as a member of the AAC, Nause joins Borzillo as the only players in UC history to earn a weekly rookie award from a conference after Borzillo earned the Big East honor five times during the 2017 season.
// ADAMS ADDS
Keeping with the offensive theme, Adams also put up big numbers in both games of the weekend as she recorded back-to-back hat tricks by scoring four against SDSU and three against GWU. Of those seven goals, five came in free-position shots as Adams was a perfect 5-of-5 from the arc, including a 3-of-3 showing against the Aztecs to tie a single-game UC record. Additionally, Adams added seven draw controls, including six against the Runnin' Bulldogs, while also chipping in one ground ball in each contest.
// RUNNING TOTAL
Adding in this week's trio of accolades, the Bearcats have garnered 13 total awards in 2019 including three attacker of the week (Borzillo three times), one midfielder of the week (Adams), three freshman of the week (Nause three times), and four Honor Roll selections (one each by Adams and Sam Mlkvy and two for Taylor Gysin). With Adams' award this week, she becomes the fourth Bearcats player to earn multiple accolades this season, joining Borzillo, Nause and Gysin.
