AUBURN, Ala. – University of Cincinnati baseball got its offense going but lost a 9-5 game at No. 18 Auburn in the second game of a double header on Saturday.
 
// NOTABLES
Joey Wiemer and Cole Murphy both had three hits on the day and each had a homerun
• Wiemer went 3-for-3 with his other two hits being infield singles and he also added three runs scored and a walk
• Murphy finished 3-for-4 with the homerun, a double and two RBI
Garrett Schoenle lasted just 1.0 inning in the start before giving way to Drake Batcho who threw the next 3.0 innings
Chase Stewart gave up just two hits and one run in 2.1 innings in relief with two strikeouts
Clayton Colvin pitched the final frame and struck out three
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st  
The Bearcats got their bats going early. With two outs, Wiemer hustled out an infield single. Murphy followed with a single to center field. Both moved up a base on a failed pickoff attempt. For his first collegiate hit, McLaughlin then smacked a double to left center to score both runners
Bottom of the 1st
• Unfortunately, the Tigers were able to answer back. A walk, hit batter and a double to right center tied the game at two apiece. During the next at-bat, a base hit and a fielding error allowed another run to come home. The fourth run of the frame scored on a strikeout wild pitch
Top of the 3rd
• UC tied the game in the third when Wiemer once again legged out an infield single and then scored when Murphy smashed a two-run homerun over the wall in right field
Bottom of the 3rd
• Auburn also scored in a loud way when it hit a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to take a one-run lead
Bottom of the 5th
• The Tigers made it a 7-4 contest with two runs in the fifth. Those came via a double, two walks, a sacrifice fly, a hit batter and a bases-loaded walk
Bottom of the 7th
• Auburn tallied one later after runner reached on a base hit, moved to second and then to third on two ground outs and later ran home on a wild pitch
Top of the 8th
• The Bearcats got one run back in the eighth when Wiemer demolished a full-count pitch to dead center field for a solo homerun
Bottom of the 8th
• However, the Tigers were able to reply with a walks, single and another score on a wild pitch

• Action returns to Marge Schott Stadium on Friday, March 8 when the Bearcats start a series against Bowling Green
• The home-opener will be the first of an eight-game home stretch that extends to Sunday, March 17
