CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati Football Head Coach Luke Fickell named Mike Brown as the Bearcats wide receivers coach Monday.

Brown was a two-time All-America selection at Liberty at wide receiver and quarterback and played three years in the NFL before starting a coaching career. He spent the 2018 season at Liberty, his alma mater, coaching the running backs.

"We are excited to complete our staff with the hire of Mike Brown," Fickell said. "He's a young, but very intelligent and hungry coach who has played the game at the highest level and understands the nuances that come with playing wide receiver. We went into this search knowing we wanted to hire the best possible fit for our team and we were able to accomplish that. Mike really impressed us during the interview process and really looking forward to seeing that translate on the field this spring and into the 2019 season."

In 2018, Brown led Liberty's running backs to their best on-field performance since the 2014 season. Liberty, in its first season as an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Independent, rushed for 1,937 yards, averaging four yards per carry, along with 30 touchdowns. Frankie Hickson racked up a career-high 1,032 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He made previous coaching stops at Michigan (2016) and Delaware (2017) as an offensive analyst and offensive quality control assistant, respectively.

Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Brown played for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2012-14, earning a roster spot as an undrafted free agent and hauling in 39 career receptions for 534 yards and two TDs.

Brown was a standout college player at Liberty, earning a pair of Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors while earning all-league honors three times. Brown completed his career with a 150.35 passing efficiency rating and a 65.0 completion rate (469-of-722 with 21 interceptions), both of which are still school records. He also ranks third in program history with 7,947 career total offensive yards. He helped Liberty win three Big South Conference titles (2008, 2009, and 2010), and his graduating senior class posted the second-best four-year win total in program history (33-12 overall, 20-3 in Big South play).

Brown's hire completes the Bearcats coaching staff for 2019. Brown and Chad Wilt (defensive line) are the two newcomers to Fickell's third staff with the remaining coaches, Mike Denbrock (offensive coordinator/tight ends), Marcus Freeman (defensive coordinator/linebackers), Brian Mason (special teams coordinator), Brady Collins (sports performance), Ron Crook (offensive line), Gino Guidugli (quarterbacks), Mike Mickens (cornerbacks), Doug Phillips (running backs) and Jon Tenuta (safeties), returning from 2017.

The Bearcats are scheduled to begin spring practice on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
