CINCINNATI – The American Athletic Conference has announced its weekly award winners for track & field with Annette Echikunwoke, a senior with the University of Cincinnati team, being named the AAC Female Field Athlete of the Week following a very strong showing at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by UC over the weekend.

Echikunwoke opened the weekend with a big day in the hammer throw as she not only won the event, but broke her own school record three more times, finishing with a best of 64.88m (212-10), an improvement of 2' 2" from her record of 63.91m (209-08) that placed her eighth at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships and earned her USTFCCCA All-America honors. In the Nikoloff event, she threw 64.40m (211-03) in the second round of the competition to break the school record before bettering that in the fifth round at 64.46m (211-05) and then topping that in the final round with her best of 64.88m. Her mark ranks her first in the AAC, fifth in the NCAA East Region and 11th nationally.

She also competed in the shot put and discus the following day, finishing first and fourth, respectively, on her Senior Day. In the shot put, she captured the title with a heave of 16.55m (54-03.75), the ninth-best mark recorded nationally on the weekend. That toss ranks her first in the AAC by 4' 2.5" and also has her sitting sixth in the East and 12th nationally.
