CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball started play in the 11th annual Joe Nuxhall Classic with a 2-1 win over Xavier on Tuesday night.
 
The Bearcats will now face Miami for the championship on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Wright State and Xavier will meet for a 3 p.m. contest at Marge Schott Stadium.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC moves to 14-17 on the season while Xavier drops to 12-20
Eric Santiago had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a double
Jace Mercer was 2-for-4 and Joey Bellini had a double and RBI
David Orndorff had a strong start on the mound, going 6.0 strong with one run, three hits, no walks and six strikeouts
Drake Batcho got the win after throwing 2.0 frames with two hits, no walks and one strikeout
• Nate Moore earned the save after pitching the final inning with one hit

A solo homerun gave the Musketeers an early advantage

• The Bearcats answered back when Mercer singled and Bellini drove him home on a double

• The game was won in the seventh when Santiago tripled down the right field line and scored during the next at-bat on a wild pitch
