CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball started play in the 11th annual Joe Nuxhall Classic with a 2-1 win over Xavier on Tuesday night.
 
The Bearcats will now face Miami for the championship on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Wright State and Xavier will meet for a 3 p.m. contest at Marge Schott Stadium.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC moves to 14-17 on the season while Xavier drops to 12-20
• Eric Santiago had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a double
• Jace Mercer was 2-for-4 and Joey Bellini had a double and RBI
• David Orndorff had a strong start on the mound, going 6.0 strong with one run, three hits, no walks and six strikeouts
• Drake Batcho got the win after throwing 2.0 frames with two hits, no walks and one strikeout
• Nate Moore earned the save after pitching the final inning with one hit
