CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball fought its way back from a 6-0 deficit Wednesday night in the Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship game and tied the contest to send it to extra innings. However, Miami was able to score in the eleventh to take the title for the third-straight season with a final score of 12-8.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC is now 14-18 this season and Miami improves to 26-6
• Joey Bellini continued to swing a hot bat with a 4-for-6 day with a walk
• Joey Wiemer, Eric Santiago and A.J. Bumpass all had three hits in the middle of the order
• Bumpass had two triples and a double with three RBI and three runs scored
• Wiemer added in a triple and also had a double and stolen base
• Santiago had a double and two runs scored
• Clayton Colvin went 3.1 innings in the start with two earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five
• Andrew Noelker followed to make his collegiate debut, throwing 2.1 innings
• Chase Stewart also threw 2.1 innings before Nick Murray suffered the loss after 2.2 frames
• Brennan Dolwick also made his UC debut, facing the final two Miami batters
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 4th
An error opened up a three-run inning for the RedHawks in the fourth. After the mishap and a stolen base, Miami scored the first run of the contest on a double. A trio of singles followed to make it 3-0
Top of the 6th
• A double and three singles allowed Miami to score three more in the sixth
Bottom of the 6th
• Bumpass started off the bottom of the inning with a double, moved over on a single by Cole Murphy and scored on an error
Bottom of the 7th
• The Bearcats were able to post a three-run inning of their own. Joey Wiemer and Santiago both singled and scored when Bumpass tripled to left center field. Bumpass came in to score later when Mason DeAnna grounded out
Top of the 8th
• The RedHawks got two runs back on a single and homerun to left field
Bottom of the 8th
• Things got interesting when the Bearcats posted four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Bellini singled, advanced on a wild pitch and moved to third on a ground out. He scored easily on a Wiemer triple. Santiago followed with a single to score Wiemer and Bumpass kept it going with a triple to score Santiago. Griffin Merritt stepped in for a pinch-hit appearance and doubled in another run to tie the game at eight
Top of the 11th
• Neither team could get a run across until the eleventh when Miami broke through, despite UC having runners in scoring position in both the ninth and tenth innings. The deciding runs came via four singles and a double

UC resumes American Athletic Conference play and remains home by hosting UCF this weekend
• Games are set for Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon
• Saturday is the team's annual Bark in the Park game
