PALM COAST, Fla. – University of Cincinnati women's golf junior Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia) carded a final-round 77 to bring her three-round total to 222 – a career-best tying score – to lead the Bearcats with a tie for 15th finish at the American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort.
Going into Tuesday's final round in a tie for sixth place, UC shot a third-round 307 to drop into 10th place with a score of 909 over three days.
Sophomore Vanessa Manrique (Bogotá, Colombia) paced the Red & Black for the day with a score of 75 which included just 1-over-par on the front nine and a pair of birdies on the back.
Murcia and senior Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) both fired rounds of 77 which featured six birdie scores between the two. Sophomore Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia) bounced back from an 81 in the second round with a 78 to finish play at the tournament.
// COACH CARL ON THE BEARCATS
"The team played hard through the front-nine holes today, and then let the pressure get to it. The players lost a great opportunity today to use all the skills they have worked on all year. Down the stretch, they struggled to execute shots. You can't throw in seven double bogeys on the back nine and expect the outcome to be good. I am proud of the team and the players' total effort the entire year. We will come back stronger next year."
