CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's golf team takes part in the American Championship beginning Sunday at the Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida.
The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the Copperhead Course. Tee times each day begin at 7:30 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com. Tuesday's final-round action will be streamed live through Facebook on the American Digital Network Plus page.
Cincinnati is seeded seventh in the 10-team event. Senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) has led the Bearcats all season long and enters the league tournament with a program-record 70.75 stroke average. He has registered six Top 12 results and has never finished outside the Top 16 in any of the Bearcats' previous 10 tournaments in 2018-19.
Cincinnati finished fifth at the event a year ago as former Bearcat Davis Baxter tied for second place at 3-under 210. The result marked the highest individual finish by a UC player in the five-year history of the event.
Squires, the 2017 AAC Player of the Year, tied for fifth at the 2017 event.
// LAST TIME OUT
Squires tied for ninth place at 4-under 140 in the rain-shortened Boilermaker Invitational last week in West Lafayette, Ind. The Bearcats finished 10th in the team standings.
// QUOTING COACH DOUG MARTIN
"We are very excited to get to Palm Harbor to finalize our preparation for the AAC Championship that begins on Sunday. Innisbrook is also the host venue for the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour and requires tremendous shot making and even more discipline. We again have had a good few days of practice after Purdue to prepare for this event and are looking forward to getting started."
