University of Cincinnati senior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) climbed into a tie for third place at the American Championship after posting a second-round 4-under par 67 Monday at the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.

With a two-round total of 2-under 73-67=140, Squires enters Tuesday's final round tied with USF's Albin Bergstrom (2-under 69-71=140) for third place, eight strokes behind tournament leader McClure Meissner of SMU (10-under 66-66=132).

Squires jumped 14 spots Tuesday thanks to his 67 score. It marked the second-best round of the day in the 50-player field and the third-best round of the tournament, behind only Meissner's pair of 66 scores.

Squires started his day on the 10th hole and proceeded to record a 4-under 31 on the back nine with four birdies and five par scores. His only bogie of the round came on the par-4, 465-yard sixth hole. He completed the round with five birdies and 12 par scores. It marks the sixth time this season Squires has carded a 67 or better round. Bearcats teammate Nicholas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian High School) also put together a solid second-round performance, moving up seven slots into a tie for 10th place after shooting an even par 71 Monday. His two-round total of 73-71=144 is 2-over for the tournament. Osterburg's second round included 14 par scores. He birdie two of the course's four par-5 holes and took bogies at No. 8 and No. 15, both par-3 holes.

As a unit, Cincinnati moved up one position into sixth place after Monday's 6-over 290 showing to 18-over 296-290=586. Memphis took over first place in the team standings at even par 286-282=568.

// QUOTING COACH DOUG MARTIN
"Austin and Nicolas carried us today. They were both in control of their games the entire round. Innisbrook was very demanding yet again. We have to clean some things up tomorrow and keep five guys in the round all day. We have had great weather and it looks to continue on Tuesday. We have a lot to play for and must come ready to play."
