CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball had a nice bounce back win Wednesday night against Eastern Kentucky in a 5-2 victory.
 
Back-to-back homeruns by Mitch Holding and Jeremy Johnson in the fifth ignited a scoring surge while the Bearcats bullpen locked down the win.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC is now 19-22 on the season while EKU is 23-18
• Drake Batcho started the game on the mound, giving up one run on one hit in 2.2 frames
• Chase Stewart entered the game with two outs, bases loaded and a 2-0 count on the batter. He threw one pitch, got the out and went on to earn the win after 3.0 innings of work
• Nick Murray followed out of the bullpen and threw 2.1 hitless frames with three strikeouts
• Korren Thompson shut the door for his sixth save, striking out three in the ninth
• Eric Santiago went 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with a run scored
• Wyatt Stapp finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI
• Joey Wiemer was 2-for-3 with a walk and stole four bases, the most of any UC played since at least the 2013 season
• Holding and Johnson had the loudest hits with a solo homerun each

• The scoring subsiding until a big five-run frame from the Bearcats. It started with the back-to-back homeruns from Holding and Johnson, both leaving the park via the left field wall. Santiago kept the rally going with a single and Joey Bellini followed with a walk. Stapp then hit Santiago home on a base hit. With runners on the corners, Bellini scored on a balk. After walks to Wiemer and A.J. Bumpass, Griffin Merritt earned a RBI by being hit by a pitch, putting the score at 5-1

• The Colonels got one run back on a single, two walks and another base hit, but Murray limited the damage as he entered the game with bases loaded and two outs and conjured a strikeout looking

• The homestand continues with Wichita State in town this weekend. The conference series is set to be played Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon
