TicketsCINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track & field team sent a trio of women to compete on the first day of action at the 125th Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., Thursday with both Annette Echikunwoke and Malin Smith earning Top 3 showings in their events. Three Bearcats distance runners also will compete with start times coming after 10:20 p.m. Thursday.

Echikunwoke took part in two events, competing in the Championship of America divisions of both the shot put and hammer and finished fourth and third, respectively. Echikunwoke opened the day in the shot put and hit a best of 16.13m (52-11.00) to take fourth overall in the competition. She then competed in the hammer and threw a best of 63.72m (209-00) to finish third overall.
// TAKING SILVER
Smith opened the day by competing in the college division of the discus and launched the platter to a personal-best mark of 47.26m (155-00), a mark that also ranks her #8 all-time in program history. She later took part in the championship division of the shot put and placed 12th with a mark of 14.46m (47-05.25). Leah Heckaman also competed in the same shot put event and placed 13th at 14.31m (46-11.25). Heckaman also took part in the open division of the hammer and finished 10th with a best of 52.45m (172-00).

A trio of Bearcats will race late Thursday night in the 10,000m run. First, Hannah Markel will race the long distance event for the first time with a 10:20 p.m. start before both Aaron Bienenfeld and Andrew Schille take part in the men's race that has an 11 p.m. start time. A recap of their races will be included in Friday's recap from the Penn Relays.

Both Marcus Abraham and Sam Meece will compete in the shot put Friday at the Penn Relays. Abraham will compete in the Championship of America section starting at noon with Meece competing in the open section at 1:15 p.m.
