HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Cincinnati baseball dropped its game at No. 22 UConn by a score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon to force a rubber match on Sunday.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC is now 12-17 on the season and 4-4 in conference play
• UConn is 19-11 and 5-3
Evan Shawver suffered the loss, going 4.1 innings with three runs, three hits, five walks and five strikeouts
Clayton Colvin followed out of the bullpen to throw 2.2 innings while Drake Batcho pitched the final frame
Jace Mercer went 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored the team's only run
Wyatt Stapp also had a double in the game
 
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st
UC took an early lead for the second day. Mercer led off the game with a double and was able to move to third and score on two ground outs. Stapp earned the RBI
Bottom of the 2nd
• UConn was able to get its first lead of the series on a hit batter and homerun to left field
Bottom of the 5th
• With bases loaded and one out on a single and two walks, another walk added a run to the Huskies' total. However, the damage was limited when Colvin coaxed a ground ball on a double play during the next at-bat
Bottom of the 7th
• UConn tacked on a run to make it a three-run game with a solo homerun to left field
Bottom of the 8th
• The final run of the game came when a single, stolen base and walk put runners on the corners with two outs and an error allowed a run in and the inning to extend

• The series will conclude on Sunday with a noon matchup at Dunkin' Donuts Park
• Next week will be a busy one at Marge Schott Stadium
• The Bearcats host the annual Joe Nuxhall Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday then UC hosts UCF April 12-14
