HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Cincinnati baseball posted a big 10-4 win Sunday afternoon to take the series on the road at No. 22 UConn.
 
It was an all-around performance for the Bearcats as the offense recorded 14 hits while the pitching staff limited the Huskies at the plate. Defensively, UC played errorless baseball while all three outfielders showcased great catches.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC improves to 13-17 on the season and 5-4 in conference play
• UConn drops to 19-12 and 5-4
• Wyatt Stapp had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored
• Griffin Merritt smashed a homerun for his first collegiate hit and ended 2-for-5 with two runs scored
• Joey Bellini was 2-for-4 with a double and Jeremy Johnson was 2-for-4 with a RBI and run
• Garrett Schoenle went 3.1 innings in the start
• Nick Murray followed out of the bullpen and got the win after going 2.2 frames with one run and three hits
• Nathan Moore pitched a perfect 2.0 innings with just one hit, one walk and one strikeout
• Korren Thompson entered in the ninth and got a fly out and two strikeouts

Bottom of the 2nd
UConn took an early lead on a solo homerun
Top of the 3rd
• UC answered right back as Merritt earned his first collegiate hit in nice fashion, with a game-tying homerun to start the inning
Bottom of the 4th
• During the next frame, the Huskies were able to regain the lead with two runs. It started with another solo homerun. Two singles and a wild pitch allowed the other run to score
Top of the 5th
• Down 3-1, the Bearcats bats came out with a vengeance. A three-run frame with all runs coming on two outs put UC up by one. Jace Mercer singled and stole second before Bellini walked. Stapp singled up the middle to score Mercer then Bellini was able to come home and Stapp moved over to third with an error on the play. Joey Wiemer also reached on an UConn mishap, allowing Stapp to score
Top of the 6th
• The sixth was a bigger inning for the Bearcats as four runs came home. It started with an A.J. Bumpass double to left center. Merritt followed with a single before Johnson also singled for an RBI. Merritt scored shortly after when a ball was thrown away when the pitcher tried to pick off Johnson. After Mercer was hit, Stapp's bat remained hot as he doubled in two
Bottom of the 6th
• The Huskies got one run back after two singles and a double, but a diving catch by Wiemer in left kept the score at 8-4
Top of the 9th
 • UC added on two more for good measure. Stapp started it with a single before Mason DeAnna doubled. Bumpass then singled one home and Eric Santiago hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 10-4 game

// UP NEXT
• The Bearcats host the annual Joe Nuxhall Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday then UC hosts UCF April 12-14
• UC will play both night games during the Nuxhall Classic, starting with hosting Xavier on Tuesday at approximately 6:30 p.m.
